Are there any more water columns left standing on the UP? Heres the one that was located at Black Butte Ca. until Amtrak knocked it down a few years back.

I'll be the first to tell you that the CORP derailed Amtrak which in turn took out the column. Bob

There is a water column in Ogden, Utah at Union Station.

Believe that it was installed by the museum. It is hooked up to a water supply, so it does work.

I was pleasantly surprised to find one intact still at the Proctor, MN roundhouse lead of DM&IR about four years ago, coexisting with repainted tunnel motors next to it, where once Yellowstones drank. I returned two years later, and it had been neatly removed, so I have to wonder if it ended up at the museum in Duluth, or somewhere else. - - - - - - - - - JLH

As I recall CORP gets at least half the credit for that little "opps".

There is one on the Natron Cut-Off that is placed between the mainline and Cruzette siding. When I was leaning my head out the window, it seemed to appear out of nowhere and it gave me quite a rush! Along with the water column is an old SP-style water tank that still stands off in the forest, just off the mainline.

I believe mario_puzo is probably referring to the water column between the main and the pass between MP 560 and MP 561 at Wicopee.

The California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento supposedly has the SP water column that was at Mt. Shasta (I was told this by a museum employee years ago. If true, the water column is probably stored somewhere out of sight).

What CSRM storing something cool out of site? They would never do something like that! ;)

Heres the Mt Shasta water column in a photo I took back in 1960. I guess if this is the one the State Museum has we'll never see it again anyway.

At least you can head for the grocery store and buy the same water that once flowed through that column. Imagine those steam engines running on Crystal Geyser...

The column on the Cascade line, at Wicopee, still stands, but this last winter, the supply line ruptured and is still bubbling up water from under ground. We used it several times to water the cars for the tunnel fire, so hopefully the leak will be repaired.

If CORP and AMTRAK wiped out the Water Column at Black Butte, then they need to replace it (PRONTO)...

UPRR should INSIST upon it... It was their property and the other two outfits wrecked it!! So THERE!!
