Osier, Colorado July 2004 Repairs on the Road.

Following the lunch stop at Osier the air compressor went out on 487. Narrow Gauge railroaders are good at improvising and making repairs in place. Here Soni and Jeff are working on the compressor before a very interested audience. Crew was able to make temporary repairs and the train eventually headed east stopping several times along the way to charge the brake lines.

I can't think of a better place to be stranded than Osier, CO. The culinary concoctions of Stephen Flowers are AWESOME! And, you just can't beat that view.

Thanks for the very interesting photo, ngfan.

As a side note, Osier will be getting new tables this summer. The current picnic-style with built-in benches will be replaced with round tables, and cushioned chairs. C&TS President Elmer Salazar commented at the March 2011 Commission meeting that "our demographics are getting older." Thanks, Elmer, especially for the cushions!

Steve,

A highlight of the first half of the ride is the anticipation of that great lunch!!!

Hope to get a picture of you under the picture the next trip!!! :):)

New tables and chairs will really help folks get up for seconds!!!!! :) Get the dessert cart ready!!! :)

BTW My wife has enjoyed the Osier Cookbook this past year...glad you produced it.

When you get to this sign the thoughts turn to the tasty lunch awaiting you at Osier just coming into view in the second shot.

I've eaten many lunches at Osier....always good! I look forward to the new cushions, but I usually eat and get out quickly so I can be around my beloved locomotives!

Meatloaf and Turkey meals at Osier...I do not have a photo of the salad bar items....Next trip will get a photo of the baggage cart full of the pies and Triple Chocolate Cake!!

After lunch the westbound departs Osier for Chama...full of 'full' riders!!!

Anyone else 'hungry' for a ride on the Cumbres and Toltec now????

Jason...we need to have a luncheon meeting there soon. :)

I may be a "Turkey" but I'd still be in the "meatloaf" line!

Anyone else notice the Reading six chime on 487!

I remember the 73 Moonlight, last one of the season, snowed from Lobato over the top, that bonfire
at Osier never looked so good and the hot food was definitely the event of the day. Like the man
said, "Good times, good times!".

DARN AcDc9902 beat me to it! Yes, I just came upon this post and immediately saw the Reading whistle on 487. Many great recordings of that whistle, which I have since understood is no longer on the premises. Too bad, it's one of my all-time favorites!
