My Take on Train Festival
Author: CPengineer

I'm finally getting around to processing some of my photos from Train Festival, and thought I'd post a few from the inbound QJ trip.

These three were taken on July 19th, the first day of the QJ doubleheader to Rock Island. The train ran from Newton - Iowa City, and I caught it first at South Amana.

1. South Amana in the blistering heat.

2. Transferring water at Yokum Junction while waiting for a westbound out of Iowa City.

3. The westbound freight that put the QJ doubleheader in the hole at Yokum.

The QJs ran Iowa City - Rock Island on July 20th, the day before Train Festival, with freight.

4. Iowa City engine facility.

5. The "new" face of 6988

6. Backing down to the sand tower. The diesel in the background, along with the two business cars, will be attached to the rear of the train but is only along for the ride.

Nice series, Jeff! I like the Iowa City engine facility shots - not a view
most of us had a chance to see.

Re: the former RI depot in Wilton - that tree has gotta go! Nice tree, bad
location for it.

Looking forward to more!

Often it's easy to choose a favorite photo. Not this time. There are too many great shots from crossing the Cedar River and from passing the depot at Wilton to your shot of the new headlight on 6988 and your shots of the crews working. Well done! Very well done!!!

Very nice collection Jeff. Do the QJ's ever use those little air horns? I wonder what they sound like?

But the location is named on the welcome sign to the right of the engine.
