C&O 2756 peparing for move
Author: emd_mrs1

C&O 2756 is being prepared for a move from its longtime home in Newport News VA's Huntington Park to a new site next to the restored Lee Hall train station in the northern end of Newport News.

The newspaper link shows not only the preparation for the move, but a number of photos of the locomotives placement in the park years ago.

While CSX supports this, they are also not going to allow it to move over the rail line - so it will be trucked after dismantling - in pieces - to the station, about 8 or so miles up the rail line.  The new pedestal, a track segment being placed alongside the previously moved station, is closer to the mainline than its current spot, by about 40 feet.  But the logistics to place a segment of panel track over that street today is all but impossible due to modern brick buildings existing on the site where that track was temporarily laid back in 1963.  But -- at least she'll be far more visible than she is today over in that park!

Could a local fan keep me posted on this move?  I have a replacement oval number plate - correct size and shape- ready for this locomotive.  I tried to get it onto the locomotive over 5 years ago but the city park superintendent just wouldn't allow it  - even after giving him photos of what this locomotive looked in regular service.  Once it is painted and at the new location, maybe we can get the correct number plate onto the 2756.
