Today while the 4449 was out pulling the Holiday Express from Oaks Park in SE Portland, Oregon....the newly donated UP 96 and the Little Boy steam heater car provided pit protection while visitors toured the Oregon Rail Heritage Center.    Arlen

If all it needed was injectors...any decent mechanic could do it in a few hours.

Well,,,,,CHANGING the injectors, you are correct. However, the 96 has "special" injectors since it was rebuilt with 645 power assemblies. So,,,,,,,,,if one does NOT have a set of correct replacement injectors, then the old injectors must all be removed, sent out for overhaul, and then re-installed, which will take many, many, many days.

It was my impression was that the UP Steam Shop had a replacement set of injectors at the Cheyenne Round house to install on the '96. Since they only fit the 96 why not send them to ORHF?  It would solve 2 problems, it would rid the UP of the injectors(so they don't have to toss them away), and ORHF would have the correct injectors to fix the switcher.

Perhaps this has already happened, I don't know.  Just my 2 cents.

Part of the "house cleaning" that has been done by the current manager since the previous crew has been gone, is; throw everything related to the previous crew in the trash/scrap bin. Thus, the "new special injectors" for the 96, as well as all the electrical drawings are lone gone from the Cheyenne steam shop (as well as the drawings/specifications for the big snow plow, spare modules & governor for the DDA40X)

Remember boys and girls, . . . . . . . this ( missing parts deal ) is one of many Christmas chunks of coal from Special Ed. More to come I am sure.

What will be really interesting is when the first massive snow storm blankets that part of Colorado & Kansas, with high winds drifting the snow into 10 to 15 foot drifts in the various cuts on the KP Main Line. Nobody on the current steam crew has any knowledge nor experience with operating & maintaining that huge rotary snow plow assigned to Cheyenne.

And with the global warming at the North Pole shifting the jet South the odds of that happening are pretty darn good.

It's all a hoax by the Chinese.

There's no such thing as a Chinese hoax, at best it's a misuse of information they stole from us! To the snow
and the Midwest, it's supposed to rain today, this moisture level stays where it is and we'll be up to our eyebrows
in snow. Might be a bood year for the photogs!

The most recent "long range forecast" (December thru February) for the entire mid-west, from the National Weather Service is: warmer than average temps and slightly higher than average precipitation. Doesn't sound like too much snow for three months.

Ed piloted the rotary over the KP , here in my video at the end the train stops at a high drift, not pictured he steps directly out onto the snow.

I thought only aircraft had "pilots".   But, yes he operated the big rotary, but still has no clue about the inner workings of the big prime mover diesel, nor the electrical system.

Sarcasm, "chill out." Besides, it was a quote from a new dear leader.
