Steam & Excursion > SP Mogul 1796 on an Excursion in 1956

These are scans of 6 of the photos the late Key Route Ken (aka Ken Shattock) sent me.  They are of Southern Pacific Mogul 1796 built by Baldwin Locomotive Works on an excursion on April 6, 1956.  These 6 are in Oakland, CA.  I do not know the order they were taken.  There are many more.  Ken said the photographer was Marvin Maynard.  He wrote captions for each one which I repeated below.

1. SP 1796, 2-6-0 with 4-car excursion train on April 8, 1956 in Oakland at the 1st & Broadway Station. (Near Jack London Square)

2. SP 1796, 2-6-0 with 4-car excursion train on April 8, 1956 in Oakland backing up the main line near 5th Avenue.

3. SP 1796, 2-6-0 with 4-car excursion train on April 8, 1956 in Oakland, just East of 23rd Avenue.

5. SP 1796, 2-6-0 with 4-car excursion train at Church St. & Bancroft Avenue in Oakland near the old Chevrolet auto plant, Apr. 8, 1956 (Ex-IER electric line)  [The IER, Interurban Electric Railway, was a unit of the SP in the East Bay.  See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Bay_Electric_Lines ]

6. SP 1796, 2-6-0 with 4-car excursion train at Oakland Pier on April 8, 1956. Last Run of the Old Steam Local and Electric Line. [Big hint to the purpose of the excursion.]

From what I understand about this trip, the correct sequence would be photos 6, 1, 3, 5, 4, and finally 2.  He had a number of other pictures of that excursion in his collection as well:

I'll check my files. I think Ken also gave me some photos of this excursion.
