So anything new on the restoration?  Any idea when it will be running again?

Just waiting on the coal boards, the chrome bling and the mismatched passenger cars to arrive then she'll be ready

That would be prototypically correct for C&O steam power, even in freight service.

And the flags!  Gotta have the flags to complete the image.

Guess I'll wait for a Peter Lerro charter when she's filthy with sand on the drivers and boiler compound on the steam dome.......just like regular service.  And, engine number on the cab, wiped with oily waste in a circular motion on the cab sides.  I guess we could add some tender water spill over on the sides.      Good enough.    It's not a Pennsy engine.

1952 ain't never coming back..
Fuggedda'boutitt ....

40 years from now the pictures of in 2021 actual "in-service" , will be
the sought-after pics.  The 'faked' poses and improbably-lighted night photos will be
disparaged as 'too artsy' for steam-era use, back before 1954....

Any fool can easily spot the posed 'give-aways....'.
Mostly because of so many pics --- all with the same few engine numbers..

W.

Might have been better to spray the driver centers red first.

Hasn't enough time elapsed for a new 1472?

We need Carl Franz and his Merry men of bush cutters.     Helmstetters  anyone?     (Maybe Carl can throw in a few loggers too.)

And how common were CP Royal Hudsons on the Southern Railway in the '40s and '50s, Mr. Authentic?

Please don't paint "Spirit of Cumberland" under the cab windows

Last I heard, it was coming west to doublehead with the 4014 on the Newalins trip.

Hello MC6853........My 16mm movies look excellent, taken from a 2 1/2 foot, industrial grade, rock steady C-clamp, stretching out the cab window, while racing at track speed on the Southern mainline.  What a ride!

Back a few years ago when the loco was suppose to be completed the railroad announced and sold it's own charter sponsored by TRAINS Magazine. Obviously that didn't happen. Conversations with Pete Lerro back then indicated the railroad had no interest in a private charter thinking they could make more money selling one themselves. I believe the number of tickets sold was 100...far too many people for most photo locations. Pete typically limits his charters to however many can be accommodated based on the railroads conditions. Of course you get what you pay for but if Pete were to charge twice what the railroad was asking, wouldn't they make as much money as their own sponsored event....and with a far more authentic looking loco and consist.  As for Carl, I thought he had a falling out with the railroad several years ago. Maybe things have been patched up since then?

You mean to power the 4014 trip?

I'd be happy if I had a chance to just see 1309 in action! I got my case jumped in the 4014 post and still sticking on my guns on that, but wanting to accurately do a steam engine right? C'Mon Man!!!

WMSR has new management. They may view the workings of photo sessions differently.
