This could be the chase to end all chases.

Foamer cartel.. No, more so if it would be safe to chase through the region Date: 09/17/21 22:25 Re: CP 2816 Author: dan UP ran a special (diesels) to Mexico City, took their own water, would a steamer need an Art Lockman car type water treatment system?

Out Date: 09/18/21 05:25 Re: CP 2816 Author: Keystone1 As a purist steam photographer...can there be anything more ridiculous than a CP Hudson, being pushed by a diesel thru a desert, framed in a cactus. Like the Big Boy on a single track, going thru a corn field.......I'll pass.

How about said locomotive adorned with the flags of Canada, United States and Mexico? :) Seriously, I think it's a nice gesture. CPR could easily decide to run the special with a diesel, instead. Over the years, there have been plenty of examples of steam locomotives in places far away from their original assignments (examples: a Burlington 2-8-2 to Grand Canyon Railway and 261 at Steamtown). See also LoggerHogger's post in today's (Sept 18) steam board. Even if it's not, I think it is a good sign that some of the CEO's first published comments are enthusiasm about a very long steam excursion. One can only hope.
