Steam & Excursion > 4014's Home Run Express (June 7 - July 3, 2023)

Just announced:

"The Big Boy will leave Cheyenne, Wyoming, on June 7, en route to Omaha. It will make whistle-stops in Wyoming and Nebraska, before returning to its home base in Cheyenne on July 3. During its Omaha display at Union Pacific's Home Plate, next to Charles Schwab Field, the public will be allowed to see the locomotive up close between June 15-21 and June 24-25 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m."

Must be for the annual college baseball world series in Omaha.  UP often has a train spotted across the street.

That's awesome you got to see the real thing! But now there's a whole new wave of steam fans who didn't even get to see the Steve Lee era of excursions. Should they not be excited about an increasingly rare mainline steam trip because it was way better 70 years ago?

What about poor 844? It has now been 4 years since she ran.

What about it? If they ran 844, I'm sure just about everyone that's new to this would be excited, too.

Hopefully there will be good photographic coverage of 4014 on the very circuitous and scenic section of line between Albin and La Grange on June 7.

As many times as I've been on the UP main line between Cheyenne, WY and Omaha, NE, I must admit that I can't recall either of those two towns. Where in Nebraska is "Albin and LaGrange"?

On the Yoder Sub, which connects to the Sidney at Egbert WY.

844 still needs a few upgrades and PTC added to her before she'll run again
