In August '76 a Rock commuter train was banging across the Santa Fe and GM&O diamonds at Joliet Union Station.

Most likely the power for 423's train. Monday thru Friday rush hour train with the normal consist of 13 old Harriman coaches behind them. We use to call this train "The Jessie James Special". Thanks for the memories. Dan

Semaphores removed when?
Author: railscenes

One of my favorite spots for train watching! However, I never made note of when they removed the semaphore signals. If my memory is correct they were removed over a period of a couple of years starting with the Home signal for westward move on the Santa Fe seen at the far right and what we call the Old Brewery signal that was mounted on an extra tall mast that could be seen from the Basin Bridge north of Ruby St.
Then later when Joliet Union Station came under the control of Metra the semaphore signals were removed from the signal bridges? Correct me if I am wrong. My own photo collection from Joliet US spans spans 43 years off and on with gaps.
It is just a trivia question that someone looking at this excellent photo might recall.
So does any one know for sure, or even approximately, when they were removed? Thanks!

They replaced the majority of them between 1991 and 1993. Dan railscenes Wrote:
