We all know when Kern Jct. tower was torn down. Does anybody know when it was erected? Mr. Sweetser?

According to Gustafson & Serpico's Santa Fe Coast Line Depots - the Valley Division page 96, Kern Junction tower was completed April 25, 1900 and opened on May 1 of that year. It was a San Francisco & San Joaquin Valley standard 12'x15'x21' tower originally, with a 5' extension to the rear added in 1923. There were originally nine other towers built to this same general plan on the SF&SJV. Calwa and Sunmaid lasted into the 60's, but Kern Jct. was the last surviving example when it was razed in 1986.

Actually, the tower building itself was completed in January 1900. It was the interlocking signal system for the tower that was completed in April 1900.

Thank you, thank you...and thank you. If you have more of the area and would share them, I'd be grateful.
