The Starlight in some Better Days
Author: samreeves

Here's Amtrak #11 bouncing up and down at 70mph near San Lucas, California back in 2000. The old P42's still had their attractive tri-stripes. The Starlight is hard pressed to even do 60mph between King City and Santa Margarita today.

Maybe Tommy the Rocket DeLaRosa was running that day!! He could really clear the tables in the diner in that area!!!

Great photo, Sam! You even got P42 119 on the point, my favorite of the Starlight-pool engines. On 6 trips to Oregon in the late 90's/early 2000's on the Starlates, I think I had the 119 and 115 for power on about 4 of the trips. I miss the Phase III paint on those.

Couldn't help noticing that the telephoto lens makes the track look like an old branch line to East Boondocks.
