Nostalgia & History > Meets Monday: Old meets new (?) in EmporiaDate: 05/15/17 08:11 Meets Monday: Old meets new (?) in Emporia Author: march_hare It's a cool February 1986 day in Emporia, KS and two Santa Fe trains are changing crews in front of the old depot. The colors seemed to tell the story: Obviously, the new "Kodachrome" paint scheme is the wave of the future, waiting only for ICC merger approval so they can add "SP" to the "SF" painted on the long hoods. So as I popped the shutter I was thinking "this will be a cool shot, of the transition times just before the merger is consumated".
Well, not quite. The merger was turned down and the SPSF acronym acquired a new meaning among fans "Shouldn't Paint So Fast." Shot's still pretty cool, though.
