great, a prototype for every car in my limited model collection of beet cars that (at least might have) visited O.C. must admit I briefly hoped your title had type for SP 1000, but actually even better.

Always love any beet video. The replacement hoppers were a fun bunch, with a lot of history. Finally seen up close there, the KCPL, which has got me guessing it's origins. Kansas City Power and Light would be a logical guess, but???

Don't think I've ever seen pics or video of the big AC's pulling beets. Great video.

Most definitely the rule, but mostly during the steel beet hopper era. Also went well into the UP merger. Ditto on the former TankTains and SP GE AC's.

At the time of the video the UP had assigned SP 100-120 to work the beets between El Centro and Tracy. Don't remember how long it lasted, seems like maybe 1997-2000 or so. Other units would fill in at times, but the norm was sets of 3 SP AC's.
