BN SDP45 6599 is nearing the end at the Precision National Plant in Mt Vernon IL on 20 Jan 1991. 6599 had been modified to test an experimental HTBB (high traction B-B) truck for EMD back in the early eighties. The experimental truck was removed and returned to EMD; 6599 was retired in March 1987 at West Burlington. This is the last time I saw the locomotive ....

I had the pleasure of watching that unit run up and down Stampede Pass during it's 'mothballed" period to conduct mountain grade testing for EMD.  EMD used the Auburn roundhouse as home base during the testing.

Sad to see it "go to pieces."

The last time I saw that unit was on the Beer Run that ran from Denver to Golden to the Coors Brewery. It seemed to me many units destined to go away ran ouot their last days on the Beer Run.
