I like your last photo of the Denver engine terminal.
Tucked away in there is 8444 fired up ready to return back to Cheyenne after running an Intermountain NRHS round trip to Laramie the day before.
I also see they are taking oil from the tank car before the trip.

You wrote that UPY 1298 is an MP15AC. It looks more like an MP15DC to me. The unit lacks the "tunnel motor" style radiators seen on on the MP15AC's.

UPY 1298 was one of the last two SP Kodachromes to work for UP, along with SD40 7357.   The switcher was repainted armour yellow and the SD40 was retired within about a month of each other in 2001.

Lol.  I didn't notice 8444 is in the photo.  Took a second look after I read your post and there it is right in front of me!
