Just another Amtrak . . .

.   .   .   in FEB '91, an eastbound extended Amtrak San Diegan was emerging from the Santa Susana Tunnel descending Santa Susana Pass into Chatsworth, CA.

I spent a short time working for Amtrak in Los Angles in 1989 before hightailing it back to Oakland. They told us that the cab cars were considered unreliable, so push-pull trains would leave LA with the cab car leading. That way the engine would be lead for the return trip in case the cab cab was bad-ordered at the turn around point (in this case Santa Barbara). Kind of sums up the Amtrak experience ...
