Nostalgia & History > Up North in AlaskaDate: 11/15/21 11:37 Up North in Alaska Author: train1275 Saturday May 19, 2007
Conductor Buddy Gray of the Hurricane Turn highballs a Princess Cruise train with AK RR 3014 as power at Hurricane, Alaska as seen from the Hurricane Turn Budd Cars. Both Budds today were ex New Haven. The Turn originated in Talkeetna, AK and went up to Hurricane and turned back as a sightseeing trip and as a means to deliver supplies (beer) to remote local inhabitants. Dana Godfrey was the engineer this day. Both men have been retired now quite a while. I took these photos while working in Projects Engineering Management with Alaska Railroad shortly before transferring to Mechanical as General Foreman - Anchorage Shop. While GF at the shop these Budd Cars normally generated a phone call about 3am when they were due to turn back out of Anchorage from weekly servicing and for some reason had air or propulsion problems.
