Author: Guitartrain

An E/B grain train, with Chessie System GP40-2s-4112 & 4167 on the point, is slowly making its way across the Spring Garden Trestle over the middle branch of the Patapsco River. The former Western Maryland Port Covington Terminal is just ahead. 8:35AM on 11/1/80 in South Baltimore, MD.

Back when Spring Garden Trestle went to Port Covington, and just not to a "Peninsula"...

Your photo of the Chessie Engines crossing over the Western Maryland Bridge is great.  Thanks for sharing with all of us.  Here attached are two photos, one showing an excursion train crossing over the same bridge from around 1972 and the second photo shows what the bridge looks like today, basically starting to fall apart as it has not been used since back in the mid 1980's and has been left to rot away.  Photos from my collection, originally from Railroad Passenger Cars (RRP) owner of the passenger cars in photo one.  The Western Maryland Railway was a great well maintained and operated railroad before it got merged into the Chessie System, as the Chessie management basically destroyed most of it.
