Nostalgia & History > Those Espee SD7sDate: 05/12/05 10:41 Those Espee SD7s Author: TonyJ For a short period of about five years the 42 Espee SD7s wore numbers in the 1400 series before upgrading and the assignment of new 1500 series numbers. Like their SD9s I liked their looks and sound. Here is SD7 #1404 next to Bayshore Roundhouse on April 7, 1975. - Tony J.
Date: 05/12/05 10:44 SP1407 Author: TonyJ Roseville was a great place to see SD7s in yard duty. Here's SP1407 at Roseville on September 14, 1977. - Tony J.
Date: 05/12/05 10:46 SP1411 Author: TonyJ SP1411 was interesting in that the SP paint shop gave it a scarlet red treatment all along the frame. Here is SP1411 next to the Tracy yard tower on March 20, 1975. - Tony J.

Date: 05/12/05 10:55 SP1442 (ouch) Author: TonyJ Sideswiping must be contagious as SP1442 got the treatment nearly two years after I took the previous photo. Here it is outside the Oakland Diesel Shop on July 22, 1976. - Tony J.

Date: 05/12/05 18:00 SD-7 in Los Gatos Author: OnTrackEd 1959, I'm pretty sure it's an SD-7 (with gallery cars in tow), and definitely taken in Los Gatos. I believe this might have been the last or among the last) trains into town. Fuzzy image from a plaque in town, the real photo exists in the Los Gatos Museum Association archives. The "Ferroequinologist" covered this topic with several photos also of the ceremonies held when the town let the railroad out for parking. Service to Vasona by way of Mayfield (California Ave.) I believe ended in 1964, when Foothill Expressway severed the upper end of the line.

Actually, this one's an SD9, but the subject is definitely interesting in any event. Thanks for posting it. Quite a few SD7s and SD9s received Nathan M5R24s back in the Sixties. The SD7s all lost their during their remanufacturings, but several of the SD9Es kept their for several years afterwards. 4316 and 4346 are two that I recall. |
