interesting GP 30 combo
Author: FT

In looking through my pool slides, some which I posted yesterday, I at first passed by this
shot because it was on a cloudy day and didn't stand out. Upon looking closer I see this
was a pretty rare set of power. Two Souther GP 30s, with two SSW 30's. I don't think I have
another train with both high and low nose (as built) GP 30's mued. This was in Birmingham,AL
3-26-70. Units SR 2633-2607-SSW 5003-5004.

Well, if this was in Louisiana, it's probably either New Orleans or Slidell. Slidell didn't have multiple tracks so I'm betting New Orleans.

I remember seeing trains like this in the mid-70s in southern Mississippi--Southern/SP and pure SP run thrus.

John,

I found another view of the units and I see my memory had failed again, it was Birmingham.

Keith,

That is Positively stunning! All you need is a UP GP30B, and maybe 875 - that GP22/30 prototype to round out the entire family of GP30s there. More please!

Best Regards,
Harry

This is the recieving yard at Norris yard in Birmingham. I delivered fuel to Southern for nine years and I know this site well.
