Yes.....open on Fri, Sat & Sun in February.

On weekdays only it’s easy to get to.....and just what I did last Friday: I caught the EXO (AMT) Candiac Line train to Saint-Constant from Lucien L’Allier at 9:30 and was there at 10am. It’s about a 5 min walk and will give you 3 hrs on site. The train goes back to downtown Montreal at 1:25pm.

During Feb.....there a 10% discount on admissions and in the Gift Shop where I picked up a copy of Ira Silverman’s new book ‘The Canadian: Last of the Great Streamliners’

So to go along with my posts on ‘Sibley Park’ and ‘Ski Trains’......here’s some other shots around the Museum.

They could never leave that Montreal subway car outside. I don't think they are desgned to be weather tight.

This is just the Angus Pavilion collection that’s open in winter. In summer you can wander the site to see a lot more.....including train rides.

Thanks for posting these. It has been a long time since I visited this museum. It's time for another visit.

I had read somewhere that the Dominion of Canada (A4 locomotive) has been moved from its prestigious location. Is it accessible to visitors? I hope it is in a protected area where it will not suffer significant rust damage again. It is unlikely Britain's National Railway Museum in York will restore it for free a second time.  I happened to be in Britain when the six A4s were on display in York. The restoration of this loco was superb.

Yes......’Dominion of Canada’ is a very nice restoration. When I visited ExpoRail two years ago it was where ‘Sibley Park’ is now. I imagine (and hope) it’s in one of the enclosed sheds that are not open to the public in winter.

These are some of the best photos of indoor displays that I have seen. "A+" photos.

Indeed, it is in a shed that is only open outside of winter months - this attached photo is from last September.

Interesting, first time I see an 'Allo Exo' sticker on a locomotive nose. One interesting thing that I noticed on Exporail's site (that is relatively new afaik) is that you can board EXO 83 from Montreal at St-Constant at 1626, stay on board as it heads east (timetable south) and then take it all the way back to downtown Montreal during the deadhead move (can't get off at intermediate stops). I wonder if anyone has ever taken advantage of this offer.

*Please note that there is an agreement between exo - Réseau de transport métropolitain and Exporail: visitors are allowed to take the No 83 train to Candiac, stay on the train and return to Lucien-L' Allier aboard the top train No 90 (no stops en route).

When I was there about two years ago I don't remember any unrestored equipment in the main hall. That said, it's nice to see the Hudson has been moved out of the barn.

Origin of the name Angus for the main pavilion.
RB Angus was one of the founders of the CPR, and the main shop in Montreal was named after him.

His son was Donald Angus, one of the original members of the CRHA, the organization which created Expo Rail. Back in the 1930's, the pioneers of the CRHA acquired some of Montreal's oldest streetcar, plus a horse sleigh and bus.  Some of these were displayed in a city museum, and others were kept out of sight in a carbarn.

Along came the 1960's, and everything happened at once, Montreal announced it was getting rid of streetcars, and both CP and CN said they were ending steam.

Through their long connection with Montreal transit, a core collection of MTC streetcars were saved, and shortly thereafter both CP and CN steam locomotives.  The site at Delson/St.Constant was acquired and volunteers like myself as a teenager helped develop the site.

Both Donald Angus and his son Fred worked tirelessly to support the museum, both with volunteer help and funding. Donald passed on in the 1980's, Fred around 2006.

Those who remember them will attest they certainly were characters in the best sense.

Thanks Michael......I’ll keep that in mind for the next trip. Three hours in winter is just about right but you could easily spend another couple of hours wandering around when the full site is open.
