Eastern Railroad Discussion > NS leasing UP C40-8'sDate: 09/15/10 15:42 NS leasing UP C40-8's Author: CCMF Heads up, a bunch of UP 9100/9200/9300 class Dash 8-40C's are roaming NS, more to come (55 is the rumour).
They should be dead most of the time just like the UP/CNW ones CN just purchased. Date: 09/15/10 17:19 Re: NS leasing UP C40-8's Author: rhmich Is this a big deal? With the many UP units that run on NS anyway as run thru or horsepower pay back except for the numbers, who would know the difference?
Date: 09/15/10 17:40 Re: NS leasing UP C40-8's Author: nanshant It is a big deal for UP to have standard cab units on the road in their vast sea of wide noses.

Date: 09/15/10 17:59 Re: NS leasing UP C40-8's Author: CCMF Well, it's a big deal that NS is renting junk that was basically on the scrap line. It is reminiscent of CP leading UP FA-1/FB-1's back in the 60's which were scrapped upon their return.

I know a few ended up on Pan Am, but they seem to be missing in action. Did Helm give up and torch them once CSX returned them and traffic went down? Date: 09/15/10 21:16 Re: NS leasing UP C40-8's Author: up8000 I was in Silvis, IL (quad cities) a couple of months ago, and there were probably 300 sd40-2's stored there. Mostly bn green. I know both hlcx and furx units were in there.
Date: 09/15/10 21:37 Re: NS leasing UP C40-8's Author: z896 There is track of HLCX SD40-2s by trim tower in the S Yard in Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati Ohio. At least they were there a month ago.
Date: 09/16/10 04:36 Re: NS leasing UP C40-8's Author: fireman74 I just saw one of the UP Dash 8-40C's on the old Monongahela at Mt Sterling (Masontown) PA headed towards Brownsville about 2:30 this AM. Sorry no pic, I was working on the river at the time.

UP can keep 'em, as far as I'm concerned. :-) Date: 09/16/10 15:49 HLCX SD40-2's Author: CCMF Some have been sold, and there are groups stored all over. NS recently put some HLCX SD40-2's in service in addition to the GMTX/HLCX/CEFX SD60's it has.

Date: 09/16/10 17:34 Re: NS leasing UP C40-8's Author: hdralleiii There are a bunch of HLCX SD40-2's, of various heritage being used in the Roanoke area. Many are painted in BNSF Heritage I or BN green, but other scheme's have been seen as well including former BC Rail Red/White/Blue units. In addition, there have been an abundance of HLCX (ex-UP) SD60's pressed into service as well as Oakway "EMD Demo" SD60's.
