Fostoria, Oh 11-28-2012 Looking for some history on this type of car. Series Numbers, Year Built, Length of car. Former N&W or Southern What are they mainly used for. Thanks, Ed Durnwald Fostoria, Ohio Date: 11/29/12 03:09 Re: NS 114581 - Bulk Head Flat Author: OHfrog I think you can go 15 miles south to Carey where they unload utility poles from them..

Couldn't say when or who built them. Date: 11/29/12 04:14 Re: NS 114581 - Bulk Head Flat Author: NSTopHat Eddie,
They are F70 class cars built in 1974-1975, Number series is #114565 - 114597, 33 cars total, 22 built in '74 and the other 11 built in '75, according to my depreciation guide. I cannot find a drawing in my freight car diagram book for flat cars. I will make a contact to see if I can get some more info. Russ Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/29/12 05:43 by NSTopHat. for all the great info. Eddie Date: 11/29/12 10:24 Re: NS 114581 - Bulk Head Flat Author: CShaveRR N&W didn't have many large bulkhead flats, so I'd guess this one came from the Southern.
The log racks would not have been original to the car. Carl Shaver Lombard, IL Date: 11/29/12 13:17 Re: NS 114581 - Bulk Head Flat Author: NSTopHat CShaveRR Wrote:

Carl; This car didn't come from N&W or Southern. If it came from Southern its car class would be FS70, not F70. In my initial search, I thought it was an ex-N&W car, but it is not as I cannot find a mechanical drawing for it. Cars purchased by NS post merger all carry car classes that would cause one to believe that older used cars were originally bought by N&W when in fact they were not. Russ |
