Eastern Railroad Discussion > ABC stone trainsDate: 09/23/02 18:55 ABC stone trains Author: CRmac80 If you ever happen to be in the Akron,Ohio area,Sunday mornings have been a good time to catch the Akron Barberton Cluster stone trains that operate from the W&LE Brittain yard to the stone company located at the site of the former PRR/PC/CR S.Akron yard.Due to the weight, more than the ABC SW-1500's can handle, the ABC "borrows" some WE power for these moves. Two of the "new" WE ex Rio Grande GP-40's lead this day.

Date: 09/23/02 19:40 Re: MRSLIDES Author: CRmac80 John, both units point south while in Barberton these days.Lots of clutter(freight cars)but it can be done.Brittain yard will also play host to one of them several days during the week.Working behind Firestone during the week is also a good bet.

What kind of stone is it and what is done with it at the final destination? i.e. is it rock taken to a crusher or cement plant etc? I'd like to know because I'm modeling such an operation on my model railroad but circa early 1950's.
Thanks in advance. |
