tank cars with a square dome
Author: GAP

In the Pentrex video "Cab Ride thru the Rathole" there are two trains that have white tank cars with a square dome in their consist. Having never seen this before, I'm wondering if these are special cars for a special commodity? Why are the domes square, rather that the "traditional" round?

That sounds like the CORX (Coors) beer concentrate tank cars. I don't know why their roof hatches are square, but they are.

Sounds like Corx cars alright. I belive those boxes are covers that Coors fabricated to place over the valves and such to Keep them clean and sanatiary. If you have ever seen one up close you would see that there built to be weather tight. They clamp down tight keeping the elements out

Thanks for the quick answers, fellows. I'm surprised they haven't painted the square dome to look like a giant 12 pack.
