CSX items stolen over thanksgiving
Author: fireman424

I was overhearing on the scanner today that CSX train Q204 was having to flag every crossing between Flora IL and East St.Louis because some one stole the airhorns off of all three UP units while the train was tied down in the Flora,Illinois yard over Thanksgiving. I later heard the dispatcher telling 553 that the CPL dwarf signal at the end of Flora yard was stolen also. After all the stuff that has been going around about railfans and the terrorist threats this is all we need is another black eye from a thief. If anyone sees these on e-bay or anywhere else please notify CSX police.

There's a big market (truckers, fans, etc) for rail air horns, but a dwarf signal?

That's railfan theft, pure and simple

CSX police can be reached at 1-800-232-0144. Often takes awhile to get through, but they do follow up. Jim, in Wapak, Oh, on the B&O.

I think you mean...a railfan thief!

Or theft by someone who isn't himself a railfan, but believes he can sell to railfan(s).

The above post is a very good point. Consider the original source of items when you visit a swap show. A railfan who purchases stollen merchandise is as guilty as the one who lifted it from the railroad in the first place.

Start watching E-bay. It wouldn't be the first time something like this has shown up on e-bay.

Hmmm.....

Due to possible terrorist actions, extra security and vigilance is the order. Moreso lately, railfans have been checked and some even harassed by the authorities. But yet three sets of horns and a dwarf signal go missing? If this can happen, what about sabotage by actual terrorists?

Or was this an "inside job", or at least someone who knew exactly what they were doing?

Just some thoughts.

Considering the sparse population of this area, I would bet that this is the work of the same individual who stole the dwarf signals last year on the same line.

Oh, so somebody in the area has a "thing" for dwarfs. :)

Let's be politically correct and rename them little people signals. HA HA

Why would you risk going to jail just to get that stuff? Enough money, and you could buy the horns from a rebuilder or a scrapper, with all the stuff that is being torched or sold these days.

That's how we got the stuff back in the 70s. Got the builder plate and number boards from EL PA 855 for $20 from the scrapper. People nowadays have no imagination. Just pipe wrenches and a lot of stupidity. I agree. Tell the CSX Special Agents to watch EBay. IMHO.
