Electro Motive Export Locomotives from "The Perch"
Author: wheel_slip

Norfolk Southern ran a special train of export locomotives from Electro Motive through Columbus, Ohio this morning. As captured from the place I call "The Perch", the special train is about to duck under Interstate 70 on the eastside of town.
I can tell these things were built by ElectroMotive, but I don't know what they are ot where they are headed. Does anybody have any info about these export locomotives?

Andy

*Apparently these are "EMD GT46c model export units bound for Africa."

GT46ACe (not a GT46C or GT46C-ACe, those are Australian domestic builds) heading to Comilog in Africa (?). Not entirely sure on where Comilog runs these.....

Well they like every other news source is calling them GT46C-ACes and listing them as built in Australia! But yes, Gabon it is, thank you for the refresher!

OK, I am confused, are the units being pulled by NS built in US or Austrailia??

I'm guessing that the c2012 order was built from EMD kits in Australia, but the current order is built directly by EMD in the US.

I'm no expert on this but here's a picture I took of the car between the NS engine and the exports. Does this help with answering your question?

Now hopefully the support bands on the cargo ship doesn't give way like it did for one of these units when it came to delivey for Australia LOL

Can you elaborate on that please? Only time I remember locos coming here and being damaged before being pulled of the ship were the ex Germany MZ class...

They never came here nor were built here. Biggest problem with the internet is the ease with which misinformation spreads.

Not Australia

Comilog operates in Gabon, which is in West Africa

A long history of sourcing US built locos

Comilog operates the Trans-Gabon Railway

No - both orders (2012, 2015) were built at Muncie in the US. There were no kits from Australia.
