"Taking Center Stage" NYS&W, Schuyler St, Utica, NY
Author: ut-1

This video shows New York, Susquehanna & Western's No. 3040 taking 11 covered hoppers down Utica, NY's Schuyler Street.

Besides looking out for vehicular traffic and parked cars, Susquehanna crews must also be alert for pedestrians on Schuyler Street's 6/10th mile street running.

Notice the wobbly pedestrian to the engine's left; I'm not sure if this individual is disabled or was impaired. The train crew sure noticed him as you can see the engineer sit-up and look towards this gent. He also blew the horn to ward him off.

You will later notice the pedestrian ambling down the other side of the street as UT-1 progresses down Schuyler.

Nice video John. I always enjoy your videos, and photos in this area of Schuyler St., in Utica, it's always a nice combination of folks, vehicles, and weather, battling for access. Thanks again for sharing your adventures John.

Looked like whoever was in the white SUV got a little horn action as well. (And rightfully so.)

I'm shocked the NYS&W does not get the city to heavily paint the 12' RR R/W down the street and in side the lines, paint XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX All the way down the track in the street. Fun to watch till they hit someone and you will be showing your video in court.

Yes, for Utica Club Brewery. I've posted a few videos here showing switching activity there. I'm sure a quick search would turn them up quickly.

And thanks to all of you for you kind comments.

Fascinating location and video. Glad a place like this still exists. There aren't to many left.

That would exceed the entire City of Utica paint budget for a year. It's not a wealthy place.

In the meantime, buy the right beers, and help keep this operation alive. I'll be tucking into a Saranac Ale when I get home, and will get a nice, warm, smug feeling that I'm helping my fellow railfans. (And that's just from the first one!) It's not a bad beer, either (far superior to the Utica Club swill they used to make there).

They still make Utica Club; in fact, it's experiencing kind of a renaissance!

Great Video!

Now if we're talking about Fort Schuyler beer, quality could indeed be questioned.

Yes, good old Utica Club is growing in distribution and popularity. Was at a bar here in Buffalo recently and it was a featured selection!

Wish we had some videos like this of the West Shore in South Utica.
