Sometimes a half-blind squirrel finds a nut... or two!
Author: NSTopHat

I got a text at 9:30 this morning that NS #203 was being led south to Atlanta by a FerroMex GEVO, and that it was at Seneca, SC. With 60 miles of rolling mainline I knew I had at least an hour to get trackside. Unfortunately the time one when 203 had passed Seneca, SC was a little dated, as by the time I arrived trackside, I had missed its passing through Gainesville, GA by ~5 minutes. While I was disappointed about missing 203, I received a text that 154 was headed north with an unspecified UP unit leading. Being a freight car junkie, NS #154 is worth the wait. So, I hung around Gainesville for another hour or so and caught NS #154 with its UP leader. Turned out to be well worth the hour of sitting, as the UP unit was an ex- C&NW C44-9W. There was also a Guilford / Maine Central boxcar in the train as well.

One more set to come.

While NS #154 had passed, I dawdled getting out of Gainesville to move north to Red Lane, as one of the locals based in Gainesville, G53 headed south to work the lumber yards and grain elevators between Gainesville and Flowery Branch, GA (~MP 593.0). There were a couple of grain cars of interest in the train.

That's all for now.

I'm learning to hate graffiti.... that MEC boxcar's number is partly obscured by trash painting.... the entire MEC's car-# actually reads 20011.

Rhett:

Noted and adjusted. The only other image I found of the car was on rrpicturearchives.net from 2008 and the other side is worse.
