Ties For The Adirondack Railroad
Author: ut-1

Although the northerly 34-miles of Adirondack Railroad's 118-mile corridor are being removed by New York State (Tupper Lake-Lake Placid), the remaining portion of the corridor is seeing major upgrades.

This video shows a Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern freight delivering three "high gons" full of new ties for the Adirondack Railroad on the rainy & cold morning of Oct 28th. Adirondack's home rails begin approx 2 miles north of the Remsen Depot, the location where the cars were spotted. The 23 miles of track between Utica-Snow Junction are operated by the MA&N (Adirondack RR has trackage rights over this section) and are part of the road's 45-mile Utica-Lyons Falls line.

The 45-mile stretch of track between Big Moose-Tupper Lake, long out of service, will be upgraded to 45-MPH standards. Approximately 12,000 ties have been brought to Remsen this fall for placement between Snow Jct-Thendara.

The video begins with the short, Alco-powered freight making its way up Remsen Hill. The remaining scenes show switching activity in Remsen. After dropping off the cars, the MA&N crew went up the line to Boonville to pick-up a covered hopper.

Removing the track to the largest resort around...Lake placid.  Way to go NYS.   Just when we thought maybe they were getting some common sense...

If these Approximately 12,000 ties have been brought to Remsen this fall for placement between Snow Jct-Thendara, where and when are the ties for the 45 miles Big Moose to Tupper Lake?
Who engine is used for the work train unloading these ties almost too late in the season to install.  Snow or freeze is expected and due this time of November.

The Big Moose-Tupper Lake work will begin next year.

Adirondack engines are being used to bring the tie cars from Remsen onto home rails. I will post a video soon showing a work train. The contractors have already installed many of the ties; no more ties will be delivered this year.
