A rare NS Military move
Author: RFandPFan

Having been stationed there, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina does not have a lot of rail trains.  Yesterday's NS 025 was a rare move from North Carolina to Jacksonville, Florida's Blount Island Military Port via Norfolk Southern to Simpson Yard in Jax and handed off to CSX at Moncrief Yard.

I remember when the Marine Corps had GE 65 ton #289320 to Camp Lejeune.

Bet it would have struggled with this train.

Thanks for the photos!

Neat catch! I haven’t seen a military move in years.

When I was at Camp lejune for summer drill in 1984, I was in one of the mainside warehouses. A Southern SW something was switching the boxcars at the warehouse doors. Only time I saw an active train on base. No camera!

Was stationed there from 2015 through 2018.  Caught one of the last coal moves before they shut down the steam plant.  Gotta love those landing support Marines, good at what they do! ROG OPS!
