As for detours, NS has some options. Cleveland Line via Bayard and Yellow Creek or NKP/Youngstown line via Ashtabula. Obviously that’s all dependent on having enough qualified crews. Posted from iPhone Date: 02/04/23 13:26 Re: NS derailement - East Palestine Author: Trolleysteve NS could run down the line as far as Alliance, Ohio and then take the Bayard branch to the Ohio River. From there follow the Ohio to Rochester, Pa and then back onto normal routing. Another option is a line that breaks off at the old Wood Tower site and goes to Youngstown, from there north on the old NYC to Ashtabula, Ohio. Then turn west on the old NKP for Cleveland. On the west side of Cleveland you can regain the regular line. Now both these alternate lines are single track and I don't know about signalling. But one way traffic flows could definately be set up.

Posted from Android Date: 02/04/23 13:54 Re: NS derailement - East Palestine Author: Jimbo 29 and 30 are cancelled today, February 4, and tomorrow, February 5. Apparently no alternate service. You would think with the advance notice Amtrak could have run 29 and 30 between Washington and Pittsburgh, with a bus bridge to and from the Lake Shore in Cleveland. Oh well. I suppose some passengers could be accommodated on the Cardinal.
From Amtrak Alerts on Twitter: Amtrak Alerts @AmtrakAlerts 6h SERVICE ADVISORY: Due to a disabled freight train blocking the tracks in the area, Capitol Limited Train 29 and Capitol Limited Train 30 which were scheduled for service on 2/4 and 2/5 have been canceled. For traveling assistance, please call or text 1-800-USA-RAIL. Date: 02/04/23 14:54 Re: NS derailement - East Palestine Author: toledopatch Jimbo Wrote:

It has become quite clear that Amtrak's current management has no interest in providing any sort of alternative service when it can just cancel the trains with impunity. Word is it was heading back to Harrisburg to make its detour. Date: 02/04/23 16:11 Re: NS derailement - East Palestine Author: EL833 Trolleysteve Wrote:
------------------------------------------------------- > NS could run down the line as far as Alliance,Ohio and then take the Bayard branch to the Ohio River. It's a continuation of the Cleveland Line, not the Bayard branch, east of Alliance. Not all trains can use that route due to clearance restrictions between Bayard and Yellow Creek. No double stacks or multi levels allowed. Roger Durfee Akron, OH |
