Eastern Railroad Discussion > Chasing the “Moore Haven Meteor”Date: 03/17/23 20:30 Chasing the “Moore Haven Meteor” Author: bmarti7 The U.S. Sugar Express ran this afternoon between Clewiston and Moore Haven. It was pulled northbound by steam engine 148. While I was watching the crew assemble the train, I got a text from our very-best friends from Bismarck who winter in Florida.The text showed (guess what) ...... the 148 knuckling to the passenger cars. I had no idea they had picked up their grandson, who had flown down from St. Louis earlier in the day to ride the steam train. It's a small world.
So here's the chase- starting with boarding in Clewiston. Next is the train approaching at track speed, 40 mph. Then the train crossing the Caloosahatchee Canal as it enters the remote-controlled swing span. Next I show roster shots of the entire train. Lastly the Burke family waving from the baggage car-not a bad shot passing at 40 mph. The video is from Deb Burke hanging out the baggage' door. Thanks for riding along.
