CSX and NS Dispatching Centers
Author: Detector

Are all CSX Dispatchers in Jacksonville Florida? If not what other locations are the CSX other Dispatchers stationed in? Where are the NS Dispatchers stationed in? Thank you for your information. Detector out

The CSX, former NYC, From Indy to Cleveland is dispatched from Indy, rather than JAX. A good thing, too, IMHO.

All former Conrail DS locations of both CSX and NS are in their originial locations. Even in Jax not all the DS are in one building. Some are located in an adjacent building as the main cirular office was not large enough. Or so it was a few years ago when I visited the Jax office.

NS has always had DS offices spread thought the regions. I believe most are in the city that the division is HQed in.

Besides Jacksonville and Indianapolis, CSX dispatches the northeastern part of its ex-Conrail territory from Selkirk, NY.

NS's dispatchers are indeed scattered across the system. Centers I know of include Dearborn MI, Green Tree PA, Harrisburg PA, Fort Wayne IN, and Knoxville TN. I know there are at least as many more elsewhere, and I believe this subject has come up before, so you might try entering the cities I've just listed in a "Search" and see what appears -- there probably aren't too many other threads in which all of them are named.

CSX also has a dispatching center in Calumet City, IL. It's operated jointly with IHB dispatchers, and has authority over most of the B&OCT trackage in the Chicago area. However, IHB dispatchers handle all of the joint CSX-IHB line between Blue Island and Franklin Park.

And now that you mention it, CSX also officially has a Rail Traffic Controller on the Sarnia Sub in Ontario. I'm not sure where his office is, but suspect it's in Chatham.

NS also has a dispatching center in Decatur, IL.

NS also has a dispatching center in Bluefield, WV for the Pokie sub-division.

The dispatchers in Roanoke control Norfolk to Bluefield, Bristol to Hagerstown, Roanoke to Winston Salem. I have toured it twice, very impressive operation.

At one time, there was an operator in Decatur, but this only covered the bridge's joint trackage. This position was eliminated years ago.

I believe most of the former N&W and CR locations on NS have been covered. To review, the CR's are at Harrisburg, Green Tree and Dearborn; the N&W's are at Roanoke, Bluefield, Ft. Wayne and Decatur. Incidently, it's the Crewe Dispatcher (district through Crewe, VA)- not the Crew Dispatcher that you hear east of Roanoke.

Former SOU offices are at Greenville, Atlanta, Birmingham and Knoxville.

Here's a question for you guys in SOU territory: are Brosnan, Inman and Norris yards using a channel other than 160.950 to communicate with road trains? When I've been near these yards in the recent past, I've heard the DS but no yard/train.

Also think the the office in Chicago dispatches the Garrett Sub from Miller West.

WOW! NS still has lots of decentralized DS offices around the system! Awesome. Centralized dispatching functing has been proven not to work well, just ask BNSF and UP how it went the past 10-12 years! Does CSX have a DS office in Detroit?

No, CSX's closest office to Detroit is probably the Sarnia guy in Wallaceburg, Ont.

All the Detroit-area dispatching for CSX is done from Jax, including the Conrail SAO Lincoln Secondary, which might as well be a CSX line operationally....

Willow Creek (where the Porter Branch crosses, which it also controls).
Also, for NS, nobody mentioned Ft Wayne Indiana (surprised Halfmoonharold
didn't chime in on that one :) It's located in the old roundhouse in the
yard there.
