Eastern Railroad Discussion > Who wrote this poem?Date: 07/22/05 13:25 Who wrote this poem? Author: eashock I've seen it titled as "My Job" or "The Creed of the Brakeman," but I was wondering who originally wrote this verse.
I'm not allowed to drive the train. The whistle I can't blow. It's not my place to say how far the train's supposed to go. It's not my place to shoot off steam, Or even ring the bell. But let the @#$%& jump the track and see who catches hell! -Eric Shock Date: 07/22/05 13:32 Re: Who wrote this poem? Author: toledopatch Whoever did the original, it has become something of a folk piece. I have seen a variant of it that applies to boats that is printed on little plaques one can buy at marine-supply stores.

It was attributed as being seen on the stationmaster's office wall at Grand Central Station.
BaltoJoey PS: Has anyone heard of a song called, "Ring The Bell And Blow The Whistle?" It was done by a popular Country & Western singer named Zeke Manners in the 1940's. Date: 07/22/05 17:03 Re: Who wrote this poem? Author: MTMEngineer toledopatch Wrote:

LOL Indeed, he was the man who said he would stop the motor of the world, and did. I almost wish I was back on Chapter 3 so I could be surprised and pleased with the book's wonders yet again. Enjoy. Btw, the book is very railroad-related for those questioning our posts... SH |
