Model Railroading > schilling on ebay

Don't do it it is not worth it even though you might get more for your item. I got caught and now am dealing with the consequences.

I suspect it is more common than we think with some items that go with no reserve...

So did you help some friends bid up the price and vice versa or did you use another identity? How did they catch you?

My friends were bidding up my items. They say their security matches Homeland security as far as high tech.

GOOD! Those of us that paid MORE than we otherwise would have "salute" you.

I have had the feeling that there was a lot of schilling going on for some time. Some items have just been bid way to high to be real.

Love to "shill" (read run a bid up) when some idiot way over bids an item. Always take him up to his max w/o going over. And it usually costs them 3 or 4 times MSRP and they are too stupid to even know it!

I don't think what you're doing here is shilling, which implies that the artificial bidding is done in cahoots with the seller.

So how exactly do you know what the other bidder's max bid is? Assuming you are doing this on auctions that are not your own, you would seem to be running the risk of outbidding the person that for some unknown reason put in a max bid 3 or 4x msrp for an item.

You don't know exactly. It's likely a guess based on a person's intuition for the demand, and seeing how desperately (and quickly) the opponent places a counter bid. It's just psychology, and gamesmanship. Some of the items you buy are based on temper, not supply and demand!!

This kind of stuff always make me chuckle especially when some people proclaim how market forces is "the solution" to world's problems, when in fact it's THE problem itself.

My punishment is I have to sell using buy it now format for 14 Days. I thought I would have to report to the Butte County D.A. office and do community service or in the pokey
