Model Railroading > Utah Railway Red paint matchDate: 12/01/10 20:50 Utah Railway Red paint match Author: WP282 Thought I'd ask the TO brain trust:
My 10 year old son asked for a Utah Railway MK5000 for Christmas after watching the Charles Smiley Soldier Summit tape about 20 times. Well, I doubt Santa can bring him one, but a SD40M-2 or GP38 are definitely possible. The Microscale decal sheet recommends Floquil SP Scarlet for the red stripe on M.K. rebuilt SD40's and other modern Utah Rwy. power, but to my eye, the red looks like it has more orange in it. What say you? Date: 12/01/10 21:25 Re: Utah Railway Red paint match Author: PHall Supposedly the colors used are UP Harbor Mist Grey, Armour Yellow and SP Scarlet.
I'm sure somebody at Boise Locomotive ca tell you, they've painted enough Utah units. Date: 12/01/10 22:05 Re: Utah Railway Red paint match Author: balryan WP282
This information is from MK when the MK500C's or the SD40's for Utah were new the colors used is SP Scarlet red and the gray is CSX gray yellow UP yellow lettering matched to UP type lettering. MK used a HO model of a SD45 to get the paint scheme they used this information was from MK. So SP red and CSX gray is the colors to use. Ryan Ballard |
