Sense of humour?
Author: rapidotrains

We just got the Best Comment Ever on the YouTube video about our new bus model:

"This is without a doubt the most ridiculous stupidity I have ever seen and an insult to human intelligence.  It doesn't say much for the company!"

Evidently he didn't get it.... This guy should watch some of our other videos. Then he'll REALLY hate us!

I note that we are not allowed to display a sense of humor on TO's on April Fools Day, but whining and carping is allowed, as always. Pretty funny, when you think about it.

Buck up, Jason. My only complaint is that you didn't use Weird Al Yankovic's Another one Rides the Bus as your theme song.

We tried to get "Spadina Bus" by the Shuffle Demons but they weren't game. Well they were, until they found out how low budget we are....

The problem with April Fools Day was that most of the "jokes" were really, really stupid.

Personally, I think with efforts like this, if you're not torquing a few people off, then you're not doing your job. In my ever-humble opinion, some in this hobby need a good torquing now and then.

In other words, well done....  :-)

Personally I'd rather see stupid humor posted than the constant whining and complaining.
Good going Jason.

Well, I suppose that is why they call it April Fools Day, instead of April Day of Insightful Jokes from Nobel Scholars About Achieving World Peace (or, it simply could be that the former rolls off the tongue better than the latter; I don't know). In any case, I'm a grown man who plays with trains. My wife claims that this is stupid. For 46 years I have failed to come up with a shut-it-down rejoinder, try as I may. Thus, I conclude that if we are talking toy trains verses stupid jokes, at best we are only arguing about degrees of stupid, so why get into a kerfuffel about any of this?

We expected the video to be more controversial than most, not in its silliness (it's pretty much par for the course) but in the subject matter. The response has really been varied, from people who are over the moon to people who are genuinely angry that we would consider making a bus rather than a train. One fellow (a good customer or ours) was ranting and raving that there are so many locomotives to do - why would we waste our resources on a bus????

Continuing that thought, it is interesting to note that all of the "NOOOOO!!!!! NOT A BUS!!!!!!!" feedback (and there hasn't been that much of it, to be honest) has been from our fans and regular customers.

Another thing I've observed is that there are a lot of model railroaders who are closet bus foamers. And when I say closet, I mean they are properly in the closet and really scared to let people know. Our own Dan Garcia is a perfect example. He knows EVERYTHING about buses. I made the team watch a TTC bus video before we launched so they could answer customer questions, and Dan was correcting everything the narrator said. Dan goes to bus charters. But then he will mock buses at every opportunity and insist he hates buses.

I am afraid one day this repressive bus foameritis will cause Dan to have a meltdown. He might smash all of our model train inventory with a mad, MCI-inspired gleam in his eyes, and then dance around a circle of flame on our warehouse floor wearing nothing but a tutu and rabbit ears shouting "BUS! BUS! BUS!"

Hopefully that doesn't happen....

The image that your next to last paragraph (regarding Dan) has brought to mind boggles what is left of my mind!  TMI!  But cute!!

That's not fair. You put the picture of Dan in my mind and I have to figure how to get it out!

Jason:

The negative remarks about your video say more about the commentator than you or your company.  Your promotions are the most amusing in the industry.

Here's what I posted last month:

"The video was a little crazy, but I enjoyed watching it."

Once, while visiting Chicago, I boarded a Chicago Transit Authority New Look bus.  I didn't know or even care where it was going - just wanted to ride in a New Look bus. I guess that makes me a "bus foamer."  But who needs to stay in the closet?

Rapido's videos are very entertaining and yes, the Fishbowl bus is a strongly-needed prototype for city scenes for a long era. I'll probably buy one just because I remember growing up with those.

I just got my N-scale CR & PC FL9's. Haven't had a chance to run them yet, but they look good. They'd go fine with a Fishbowl or a Scenic Cruiser parked nearby.

Resist the MC9 temptation. That sucker is just ugly.
