Model Railroading > Atlas Multi-Max first impressions

Picked up the 3 of the cars I had on order the other day and figured I'd post a few pics. 

Detail is great with full brake plumbing, coupler cut levers, etc. The simulated metal panels are done well. Tracks superbly, one of the most free-rolling cars I've seen. Overall a very nice job.

I've got the ScaleTrains version on order as well so it'll be interesting to compare.

Great job with the backdrop!

The side panels appear to be metal, and not curled like the IMRC side panels.

The side panels are actually plastic, but do a really nice job.

I know the upcoming Rivet Counter car from ScaleTrains will have metal panels. Saw them firsthand at Trainfest and they looked great with no bends/distortion.

I understand the wheels are 28 inch.

They do look quite good.

The ST Operator Multi-Maxes also have plastic side panels.  I got to see both ST Rivet and Operator at the Chantilly WGH ST display and the plastic side panels looked pretty nice.  The Rivet counter had metal side panels.

Details like these were never that good even on brass cars. Plastic cars and engines have come a long way, run better than brass among other things.  Still have a few old cars from the early 50s.

I'd almost rather have the plastic sides vs the metal ones so you wouldn't have the expansion problems.

Thanks for the photos. I also think plastic is fine for these, because the real panels aren't really see through anymore anyway. On the older cars the metal panels make more sense.
