What was Walthers explanation when you contacted them regarding this matter?

Why the assumption that this is a Walthers problem?

At this typing, Walthers shows the newest run in stock. So do other online dealers.

Spring Creek and Model Train Stuff (Kleins.) Lombard said they had them in a homepage banner, but I couldn't find an actual list.

For what it is worth, Lombard is fulfilling my pre-order of two cars and claims that these cars are sold out at Walthers.

A search of the Lombard site for Walthers woodchip car comes up empty, but they do have the *new* banner ad. Strange. Maybe Walthers shorted them? I wanted to get a Rapido Angus van from them but apparently they didn't get any. Bought mine from Otter Valley in Ontario for a great price thanks to the exchange rate. But a quick look didn't show them at OVR, either.

I'm still hoping against hope WALTHERS will release the UNDECORATED's of this car-type series again - for painting into freelance road names.  I'm not willing to strip off a nice paint job like these, then have to repaint them from scratch.  Those are terrific models, and run nice, too - and the price is a WHOLE LOT BETTER than the previous "for rich guys only" price.

Update:
I talked with my hobby shop this morning.
They told me (same thing walters said)
That they were allready producing the model when the
ade came ou.....
And for some unknow reason, the thought the
Family Lines car would not sell. I told the dumb
person at walther they did not do there homework
on just how popular these cars were in the south.....
So I guess will hafe to wait another 4 years befor the
car  come back our......Hell, I might   be dead  by them.....................

Drop an e-mail to Spring Creek. I've found them excellent to work with and respond quickly. If they have them, they'll tell you so.

So Walthers originally listed a Family Lines car and you ordered 12 of them only to have Walthers reduce the number of those produced?

I don't know if these can still be ordered, but I came across this:

PWRS Pacific Western Rail Systems

Based on both of the threads I’m gathering Walthers may have underestimated demand for the SCL car, hence it sounds like some preorders may have gone unfilled. YankeeDabbler.com seems to be the only place I can find in a quick search that appears to have then in stock.

I preordered all of my chip hoppers through Lombard hobbies (the day Walthers made the announcement) and recieved all 10. Lombard literyall sold out of all of the others the day they listed them on their website. This is why preordering is important.

As far as you getting stiffed by your dealer, are you 100% sure you gave them the correct SKU's and specified your amount you wanted? Just seems odd that you only recieved one car but almost eveyone else recieved everything they ordered.
