Amtrak's 2019 Calendar features the Southwest Chief
Author: RuleG

Amtrak's 2019 calendars can now be seen on its website and they will be in stock beginning next month.

The 2019 wall calendar (measuring 24" x 36") has a photo of the Southwest Chief near Albuquerque.

The 2019 cubicle calendar (measureing 11" x 17") has a photo of an Acela train on the Hell Gate Bridge in New York City.

Wow. I would have never thought the SWC be highlighted not in a 1000 years. Obviously Anderson doesn’t approve the calendar but with all the uncertainty around the train you’d think someone at Amtrak would have put forth another train. Either way very cool!

The Southwest Chief photo was a last minute substitution.  The original photo was the same location but with a smiling Anderson driving a bus.

My conspiracy theory side thinks Anderson permitted this to lull the advocates into complacency so he can go back and try it again in 2019.
Note that he has NOT released the $3 Million Tiger Grant, which would in turn release other tiger money for a NM county.
Anderson is not done; he's recharging his batteries.

That is always one of my favorite areas when on the Chief.

Always remember the Delta Dick Master Plan......dirty/late trains=less riders=easy trainoffs. Simple and effective.

Sorry, but most of us would like to stick Anderson in a compartment, and lock the door from the outside.

I'm dismayed by Anderson's changes to dining car service on the Capitol and Lake Shore Limiteds and oppose his proposal for a bus bridge on the Southwest Chief route.  That said, apparently unlike others, I'm able to separate my feelings about Anderson from the calendar and simply enjoy a calendar photo of a train in a scenic western location. I plan to order the calendar.

It’s just pent up energy having fun with the irony of it. I’m sure 75 percent of us order the calenders.

Possibly you don't ride trains very often anymore, Amtrak trains are in their best condition in years in my opinion.  Investments are being made in upgrading dated interiors, additional cleaning staff, daily inspections by independent observers. I've ridden frequently lately and I have been very impressed by the condition and cleanliness of the trains, from the carpets, to the seats, and even clean windows. Anderson unlike his predecessor is holding people accountable and some of them simply don't like it.

Which trains?

I haven’t seen any recently refurbished Superliners and have found staffing cut to the bone at times. As I’ve mentioned before I’ve been on the SWC where passengers have been encouraged to eat in room so those who really want to eat in the diner can be seated. 1 server, 1 LSA on trains so packed and overbooked that coach passengers were seated both in SSL and unused half of the diner due to no seats. I don’t doubt all the money is going to NEC services.

Doing a 5 night on the SWC, SSL and TE over the holidays I’m hoping staffing is boosted for the winter holidays. Who knows.
