Former C&O station at Norge. VA
Author: OCtrainguy

I was going through some photos of a family trip to Williamsburg at the beginning of August 2019.  On our way to Richmond one day, we stopped in the town of Norge and took a look at the former C&O station, which has been removed away from the tracks and by the library.  Not sure who currently owns it, but the station looks really good.  They also have a Georgia Railroad caboose adjacent to the station.  Here are two views of the station and one of the caboose.

It looks way better than it did when I lived in Williamsburg (1995-2003).  Then it was adjacent to the tracks in Norge and in a derelict condition.  Even then one could see it had been a handsome depot.  Thanks for sharing this photo of an old friend after she had been to the beauty parlor.

The GA Railroad caboose is unusual.  Not too many in captivity.

Those are great pictures, thanks for sharing them.

The Virginia Department of Historical Resources has a three page presentation on the station.  Built in 1907, it is the last example of the C&O combination station.  Built for small communities from a standard plan, it has an express room, a baggage room, a waiting room for white people, a waiting room for African-American people, and a station master's facility.  In the standard design used by C&O, the preparer says the second waiting room could also be designated as a "women's waiting room".
