Memories! Thanks for posting!

SWC only has one sleeper at this point, but then there's also two trains from Chicago direct to LA - Southwest Chief and Desert Wind. Prior to the Superliner II's coming online there was a shortage of some Superliner cars. Then again in the mid-1990s, cars seemed to pile up again on side tracks as passenger cars began awaiting repairs. Things got a little more "flush" after the Desert Wind, Pioneer, Broadway Limited, Montrealer, and other trains got taken off the schedule. But then Warrington had BACKLOGS and BACKLOGS of deferred maintenance by the early 2000's right after admitting defeat with the "glidepath" to self-sufficiency. Gunn came in and demanded cash from Congress to not only stay solvent and meet payroll needs, but start on the backlog of cars needing repairs.

Thank you- a really neat look back at the SW Chief, working its "ancestral ATSF Line" at the now long gone Broad St. Depot in GBA.
In those days Galesburg of course had Two Stations; this one and the main Seminary St Depot that's in use today for all Amtk trains.
They each had their own 3 letter code- Seminary St. is GBB.

A matched set of F40's! Happily, 288 lives on. After spending it's last few years in the NEC pool out of the Albany, NY shops, electrification forced her into retirement. Luckily, she lives on today as CSX 9999. The fate of 287 is more cloudy. She also spent her final time in service in the NEC pool, bounced around a little then went to AMT. After leaving AMT, I am not sure where she ended up.

Unfortunate deteriotation of old video, but heartbreaking just the same to see so many MHB's earning income for Amtrak.  Brought back memories of the F40's constant roar at station stops!

I miss how Amtrak was back then, if they didn't make stupid changes in he mid 90s with the train eliminations and proper maintenance they would've been fine!
