I am going to go out on a limb and assume this was approved by Amtrak!

Seeing lots more vandalism of Amtrak's equipment these days. Lack of security, or a sign of the hastening collapse of society?

The sides have been painted. It may be easier to get off if it still had the bare brushed aluminum finish.

OK, but on purpose by Amtrak, or what? Still confused.

How long would that take? Even if there was a crew, could it be done overnight? Seems like there'd be a case or two of paint cans required, ladders too?

Hmm ... new penalty: make 'em paint a full side mural on the side of a cargo ship or maybe be a marine auto carrier! lol ...

The group is reported as "D-30" out of Detroit. They are stealthy like ninjas only instead of swords they use spray paint! Pontiac trains have been tagged twice in two months.

Happy King Day...

This should not have happened period.  It is graffiti and vandalism period no matter what the message.  I just cannot understand how this gets done without anyone seeing this and putting a stop to it.  We have a very sick society.  Why don't these vandals paint the sides of their autos or their homes instead?  Not another person or company's property which is what both freight cars and in this case a passenger car is.

Problem with Pontiac, MI terminal is the tracks extend a ways south of the maintenance building, along the CN Holly Sub.

CN or Amtrak Police should stake out this spot, and catch the miscreants in the act. Throw the book at 'em.

Yes, they painted the sides silver or "platinum mist" and clear coated it. Metro North and I believe EXO clear-coated theirs too, though perhaps skipping the painting step. Bare brushed aluminum does not get clean going through a traditional washer. It requires an environmentally-unfriendly chemical solution to really clean it, which is what NJT does and why so many of their Bombardier cars look like crap.

I have no doubt that some in the pandering mass media and social "media" would think that the "message" justifies the vandalism. Some probably would call it "art" and urge Amtrak to preserve it as a rolling billboard with a message.

Disgusting...

It looks a lot better than most of the stuff.  At least you can read what it says,  It's also where it should not be.  I don't care how good it is, it shouldn't be there.

Back in the summer, I was parked next to the tracks waiting for something to come along.  A fellow came over to me and ask if I was having a problem.  I told him I was just waiting for a train, maybe I could get some interesting pictures.  He asked, "Oh, looking for some interesting artwork on the cars?"  He had just come out of an art studio.  It's art in his eyes.  Since he was nice enough to offer me help if I needed it, I didn't tell him about trespassing and damaging other's property.  I told him, "No, just some interesting equipment."

It seems like Amtrak could put a camera along that track that extends from the shop.  I'm sure they have a security guard somewhere that could watch for movement.  It's going to cost a bunch of $$$ to clean it up and it will probably happen again if they don't do something to prevent it.

A neighbor of mine got his car tagged overnight.  They put some pretty bad words on it.  As he was driving it to the dealer to have it buffed out, he got stopped for driving around town with that message on his car.  He explained what happened and they let him continue.  He was the principal at a local high school.

If you want to see crappy looking Bombardier cars, look no further than the MBTA!

Railroad graffiti has gotten out of hand!  Looking at my videos from the 1990's, and there is nary a car tagged.
Now, just about every train has multiple instances of graffiti!  The freight railroads don't seem to want to tackle the issue.
You would have to hire an army of security guards both in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to fight this cancer.
Maybe this could be part of a infrascructure bill, because it's obvious the freights aren't going to spend the money.

Perhaps the collective freakout could pull back a realize that one Amtrak car got tagged and stuff like that happens. I'll bet anyone that if I drive by the Amtrak Chicago coach yards on the way to work that out of dozens or perhaps a hundred cars, not a single one is tagged, just like every other day.

I have a better idea. People can parent their kids instead of letting them run in the streets.

Haha wow! Not a bad job. It's rare you see graffiti so well done.

A group of high school kids burned down a historic home that was abandoned in my neighborhood (it was actually on the verge of being converted to a B&B with a reception hall for weddings). A parent to one of the kids was actually quoted in the newspaper, saying that "we shouldn't blame the kids, as there's really nothing for them to do do any more." Really? What? How about this - the kids could have helped restore the historic home for the betterment of the community.........Amazes me how people an make things defensable. Very little seems to make sense.......

When a NYCT subway train gets tagged, it is immediately yanked form service and cleaned off.
Amtrak lacks such dignity about its image, or maybe it does east of Harrisburg.
