Fred Harrison Central Point, OR CORPpower/JSS/EORS Date: 10/03/10 19:38 Re: WP 2001 works the loop Author: RRTrainingServices It's driving me nuts trying to figure out what that silver box between the 2001 and the second locomotive (looks to be a Geep) behind the 2001. Any ideas?
Date: 10/03/10 21:32 Re: WP 2001 works the loop Author: GoldenState I'm seeing the 2001, no smoke. An F unit, rear facing or "B", with smoke. Followed by a brown box. Then an orange box, with silver feather, and the rest of the train.
Nice photo. Rob Date: 10/04/10 09:17 Re: WP 2001 works the loop Author: trainjunkie In 1986 the only F-unit we had was the WP 921, which is an "A" unit, so it would be facing rear against the 921. The reason why it may not look like the rear of an F-unit is because the original horizontal ribs that are stamped into the rear end sheet on the fireman's side are gone. That was a WP repair that I believe was the result of a grade crossing accident in the late 1970s. They just used regular sheet steel for the repair so the ribs are gone. I have a close-up shot of the rear of the 921 somewhere that shows this clearly but not handy at the moment.

What is throwing me off is that if you enlarge the photo, you can see the top of a silver box and there is no orange stripe on the rear. Unless the repair of the engine left out the little bit of orange stripe that usually wraps about 3 or 4 inches on the rear of the carbody, this didn;t look like the 921. Remember, this was a UP paint job done just prior to donation. ;) The orange stripe on the 921 terminates at the rear rivet strip directly below the back edge of the air intake grill. On the 917, the stripe goes all the way to the back edge of the unit. On the "B" unit, it wraps around the corner. Not sure about the 805-A. Anyway, here is a shot of the back of the fireman's side of the 921 that should explain everything. Date: 10/04/10 15:54 Re: WP 2001 works the loop Author: RRTrainingServices It does, thanks Mike.

What makes you suspect otherwise? Date: 10/04/10 18:28 Re: WP 2001 works the loop Author: SuperC Its the 921. I have the same consist going the other way too...guess I'll have to try and find it.
Adam Date: 10/05/10 12:05 Re: WP 2001 works the loop Author: steam290 The reason it looks like you can see the top of a silver box is an optical illusion caused by the shadow of roof and a weld line.

It looks like they forgot to take out the Atlas foam on the Geep that is packaged to protect the handrails. ;) rick Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/06/10 03:37 by rschonfelder. |
